Fits bug, the true* 002 trans & Mendeola transmissions using 130 tooth 12 volt vw flywheels.

002 gearboxes have 3 ribs - 091 gearboxes have 6
Want to KNOW if your bus transmission has an 002 or an 091 bell housing?
Measure from the starter mount 'face' to the starter bushing.
If the distance from where the starter mounts onto the transmission to the starter bushing is 2": you need to use the 002 / beetle / Mendeola style (53600) starter.
If the distance from where the starter mounts onto the transmission to the starter bushing is 2 1/2": you need to use the bus 091 style (53650) starter.
Transmission builders sometimes put the 002 style bell housing on an 091 transmission because the starter is cheaper in cost.
Measure your transmission BEFORE you order the starter.
