Master Cylinder Choice Information

Part number:
MCC
Description:
Taken from pg 188 of the 2011 Empi catalog:
Your VW came from the factory with a great master cylinder and drum brake system designed for the then 54 hp car with limited speed.
Now, you have added more weight to that car, added increased hp enhancements to the engine and that brake system is no longer efficient or safe.
So now you want to add a safer brake system to that car.
The question is where to start.
Start with a modern large bore master cylinder.
If you are going to have 4 wheel disc brakes, you MUST have a dual circuit master cylinder (16-9554 or 17-2808). Even with disc brakes only on the front and drums on the rear, a dual circuit, big bore master cylinder is a wise choice for safety reasons.
The pressure and bias for stopping power and control of your car with disc brakes is ideal when using a dual circuit master. Not so with a single circuit master cylinder.
A premium, modern, disc brake system installation will include 2 psi residual pressure valves*. The valve will hold 2 psi of pressure in the lines, keeping your brake system ready to use with minimal pressure on the pedal.
*Depending on how you plumb the brake lines (and where the disc brakes are on the car), you may use 1, 2 or even 3 valves.
ALWAYS have a qualified brake professional do the install if you are not qualified.
