coil mount option on type 1 shrouds - how to
Part number:
cmo
Description:
When I have a coil to mount on an engine with a nice clean shroud (one without holes), I like to mount the coil on top.
here's how I do it.
Locate a spot in line with the distributor
Set the coil in the clamp (tight)
Position the clamp and hold with vise grips
Drill through the clamp and slightly into the shroud
Remove the grips and the coil/clamp assembly
Finish drill the 2 holes on the edge of the shroud's 'lip'
Tap those holes with a 6 x 1.0 tap
Install 2 oil drain studs with nylocks on the bottom to prevent pull out
Set the coil/clamp assembly back on.
Put a washer on the clamp and put another nylock on top of it, for both studs
Drill through the clamp and slightly into the shroud, on the other side of the clamp
Now finish the install with 2 self tapping screws through those holes and into the shroud
The coil will stay put and the coils wire will reach the dist cap
The shroud face is clean
