BUG STYLE, not for anything other than on a bug, the true* 002 trans or Mendeola trans with a 130 tooth bug flywheel.
This starter is more powerful than the IMI 101
IMI Performance Products brand.
*A true 002 is one that retains the original bellhousing. NOT an 002 with an 091 bellhousing.
002 gearboxes have 3 ribs - 091 gearboxes have 6
Want to KNOW if your bus transmission has an 002 or an 091 bell housing?
Measure from the starter mount 'face' to the starter bushing.
If the distance from where the starter mounts onto the transmission to the starter bushing is 2": you need to use the 002 / beetle / Mendeola style starter.
If the distance from where the starter mounts onto the transmission to the starter bushing is 2 1/2": you need to use the bus 091 style starter.
Transmission builders sometimes put the 002 style bell housing on an 091 transmission because the starter is cheaper in cost.
Measure your transmission BEFORE you order the starter.
