master cylinder bench bleeding / pressure test tip
Part number:
mcbb
Description:
In order to bench test a new master, you first need to plug the outlets. You can do this as we did (see pic), using various crimped ends from old brake lines, a new looped brake line and a pressure gauge. Or you could use vw brake switches in the ports also. Just plug the ports.
Fill the opening the reservoir sits on or fill the body with a remote reservoir, whichever is applicable to your master cylinder.
Use a phillips head screwdriver and gently push the piston back and forth to let the master draw in the brake fluid.
After a few strokes, you'll see pressure build up in your gauge (if you use one) or you'll feel pressure build up as you meet resistance on the screwdriver.
Now, you know the master works. Install it in your car and repeat to bleed your system.
In our pic, we had already built pressure and plugged the inlet port, when the pic was taken.
