cooling fan hardware kit - to install your new fan on the shaft of either your generator or alternator.
Empi packaged with 2 wavy washers.
You may wonder why there are 2 wavy washers:
If you flatten one of them, you can use it (instead of 2 or 3 pulley shims) to space your fan on the hub.
The other wavy washer goes on the nut side of the fan. Leave it wavy.
IF this kit came with instructions, it would tell you this.
The other day I installed one of these kits on an Empi brand new 55 amp alternator which came in the Empi alternator conversion kit.
I had to grind down the hub*, to get the fan to shroud clearance needed.
I held the hub with thick gloves against my abrasive cut off blade (in my cut off saw) and shaved off of the 'back side' of the hub (the side that rests against the alternator) in order to get the fit I needed, so the fan I was using would not rub the fan shroud I was using.
Ultimately, the kit went together with NO shims between the fan and the hub and the one thick wavy washer on the fan (beneath the hub nut).
*In the picture above, the hub is in the upper left corner. The part I shaved off some material from is the round part of the hub (with the keyway) shown facing you in the picture.
