New steering box (Made by the company that was making them for TRW)
A customer of mine recently bought a new steering box to correct a 'wander' he had in his bug. After installing the new box he still had the 'wander' and now it was even worse. He had me inspect his install and the 'in car' operation of the box. Both appeared to be in perfect working order. I told him to look at the coupler hardware, which appeared to have some play 'before' the box.
After purchasing our chrome steering buffer hardware kit 17-2584 and a new flex disc 16-5150, the 'wander' is now gone.
Moral of this story: you may not need a new box. Always check the hardware & flex disc first.
